Last day in Canada

Saturday was our last day in Canada.  Sunday morning we will be leaving and heading back into Maine.  We didn't have any specific plans for the day so we just took it easy.  Michael and the kids took a walk on the red sand beach here on the campground property.  They found oysters, sea coral, and a blue starfish.

We have a really nice view of the river from our campsite.

Around lunch time we went to a Farmer's Market close by in Charlottetown.  It must be a place the locals love to come to because it was extremely busy.  There were several local artists there.  We saw a lady spinning yarn out of wool that she got from her sheep.  There was also pottery, goats milk soap, wood and stone crafts, hand crafted jewelry, and lots of food vendors.  We bought a pretty clay coffee mug.  We also bought some perogies and a cabbage roll.  I loved the perogies but the kids didn't care for them.  Michael enjoyed the cabbage roll.
We went to a large music store next and had a good time browsing and looking at all of the instruments.  I bought some fiddle music and some violin rosin and Jeremiah bought a ukulele.  He was so excited about it.  We got an instructional book and DVD for him also.

We went to a neat place called BOOMburger for lunch.  The restaurant serves hamburger and French fries and most of the ingredients are from Prince Edward Island.  The beef comes from local cows, the cheese and butter (on the bun) are from Cow's Creamery which is just next door, and the mushrooms are grown on the island.  The French fries are cut fresh from the potatoes grown on the island.  Everything was delicious!

Poutine is a favorite dish in Canada and we decided we had to try it before we left.  It's basically French fries with gravy and cheese curds.  We ordered it at BOOMburger and it was surprisingly good.  People say that kids here want poutine like kids in America want macaroni and cheese.  We've seen it on the menu in most restaurants we've been in here.

After we finished eating, we went to the Cow's Creamery next door and took a tour of the factory.  Their ice cream was voted best in Canada by Reader's Digest and best in the world by another organization.  They also make screen printed T-shirts, aged cheddar cheese and cow chips, potato chips dipped in chocolate.  The tour was fun and we especially enjoyed the samples they gave us.  Their ice cream sure tastes better than any I've ever tasted.  We got to try their favorite ice cream flavor called Wowey Cowey and then we bought some Gooey Mooey.  Okay....you can stop drooling now!
