Back in the USA!

On Sunday, we said goodbye to Prince Edward Island and headed back to the USA.  We took the Confederation Bridge back to New Brunswick this time instead of the ferry.  You don't pay anything when you come onto the island, either by ferry or by bridge, but you do pay when you leave.  It cost us $59 for the RV and the Jeep, but that was much more reasonable than the ferry fee would have been.  The bridge is about 7 miles long and takes about 10 minutes to cross.  It was extremely foggy and we couldn't see very far in front of us at all so we couldn't appreciate the views of the water or New Brunswick.  It may have been better for Michael's nerves though.  He was definitely ready to be off of that bridge by the time we got to the other side.  It can be a little intimidating to drive on something like this in a tall motorhome.

Looks like this bridge goes right up into the clouds.......kind of makes you think twice before proceeding.  It's kind of like "walking by faith".  You can't see the bridge or what's on the other side, but you know it's there and will take you safely across.

After driving for a few hours, we saw a sign in New Brunswick for a little town called Sheffield......and of course we had to stop.  There really wasn't much to the town.  We only saw two businesses, a few houses, farmland, and a beautiful river that runs right beside the road.  We found the river interesting because the water was so high, actually covering the base of the trees.  A local told  us the water gets high like this every year and then it recedes.  Sometimes it actually gets high enough to cover the road and people get around in canoes.  We stopped at a little country store...museum...gift shop...restaurant...etc.  It was a one stop shop for sure.  Michael bought a cap that said "Sheffield, New Brunswick".  It was kind of tacky, but we couldn't find anything else with the town name on it.

We crossed the border at Houlton Maine per the advice of the campground owner in Prince Edward Island.  He said the agents were a little more laid back there.  We didn't have any trouble.  They didn't search the RV or anything.  They only asked a few questions and then sent us on our way.  We had a pleasant drive over all.  There were storms off in the distance but we didn't run into any rain.  We enjoyed watching the cloud formations with the sun shining behind them.

We stopped in Bangor Maine to get dinner.  Michael was really in the mood for Mexican so we searched until we found a Mexican restaurant.  Well, at least they said it was Mexican.  It was the worst we've ever had.  These people need to take a few more trips to Mexico to learn a thing or two.
After dinner, we went to Walmart (the biggest one we've ever seen) and restocked the kitchen cabinets.  It was wonderful to finally buy groceries at a reasonable price again.  We were all excited and the cart filled up quickly.  It's amazing how good a bowl of cereal sounds when you've done without it for a while since the milk was $7.15/gallon.  Ha, ha, ha...the other customers probably thought we were crazy, all of us talking at once and filling the cart so quickly.  I didn't know we were so addicted to Walmart.

We decided to overnight at a KOA campground in Skowhegan, Maine, about an hour past Bangor.  There were severe storms forecasted for the evening but thankfully we didn't see any.  God was watching over us.

I wanted to share a couple of pictures of the many "moose crossing" signs we see around here everywhere.  We haven't seen any moose yet, but maybe we will before we leave the area.
